I think it is easy for UK based Mini owners to take for granted how easy it is to run, restore or modify a Mini. I was once again reminded of this when visiting Brazil for the International Mini Meeting South America. The
Mini owners I met were very passionate about the Mini, just like we are over here, but it is not so easy for them to buy parts and they are faced with hefty postage bills from the UK. But their passion for the Mini means that will never put them off. Mini is more than a hobby or a means to getting about, it's a way of life, wherever you are in the world.
Whilst at the Mini event in Brazil, with my mum Kay, we were able to drive a 1959 Mini owned by Gabriel Stumpf. It was the first time I'd driven a '59 and it was a real treat. There was torrential rain at times during the
weekend and we saw just how bad early Minis were at letting water in
through the fl oor and windows. It seemed a bit odd driving a 1959 Mini
that had only recently arrived from England, on Brazilian streets, but
it was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. The whole event
was fantastic. Many of my new Brazilian friends were keen on visiting
a European IMM so I look forward to seeing them in Kent next year.
Travelling to a Mini gathering is a perfect opportunity for a driving
adventure and this issue's Road Trip feature is a truly epic one. Freddie,
