Hello to my fellow mini makers! This month I wanted to speak about how patience is crucial for the creative process. Being creative can’t be rushed, it has no specific schedule and doesn’t show up on demand. This is why most creative people may have some trouble planning every moment of their day.
When you’re sitting at the work table making mini magic, it’s important not to focus on how fast you can finish your piece. Instead, make each thoughtful decision and take a breath with each brushstroke. After some time, stop and really look at your work before you move onto a new task. Get a coffee or tea and drink while you examine what you’re making. Or step away from it completely and think about your next move.
I have found when I step away, one tiny thing that I thought was ‘off’ begins to over inflate in my mind. I come up with an elaborate way to improve the problem but when I go back to look at my work, I’m always surprised to see it really wasn’t that big of a problem. It turns into a happy accident or an easy repair. Patience is a skill that takes practice, just like any other. Slowing down will make you happier and that will come across in your work plus it will push you as an artist.
