American Miniaturist  |  Issue 264
F or the past 20 years or so I have been carefully monitoring the pressures of society, the compliance tasks we have to do to live as a country, the persuasive marketing of corporations telling us what they think we need to have a simpler life.
I have learned to pace myself and keep things as natural as possible. Just because the world is shoving 100 things into my hands at once doesn’t mean I have to take all of them.
I sift through the pile and take only the things needed as necessity and pleasure. Pleasurable things are simple and meaningful: family, friends, quiet walks, creating healthy foods, and a hard but necessary one, budgeting which allows me to buy minis and art!
When reading the articles in each issue of AM there’s always a recurring theme. The most valued subjects that come up are family/friend support, cherished childhood memories of simplicity, and making mini spaces to catch a breath and feel at peace. These are honest and wholesome reasons to create and will always feed the soul of the artists and its viewers.
What are your basic needs and what things are you only keeping up with that you could live a happier life without?
