American Miniaturist  |  Issue 249
This month, I remember lyrics from Tom Petty in The Waiting. This came to me when I was reading the story Michell Bryant sent in about her Baby Dutch House. Many times while putting a dollhouse together I reach a point when I am forced to stop because of indecision. At this moment I have stopped on my newest build because I can’t decide on what wallpaper design I would like to install. These stopping points are crucial to achieve your vision.
There is nothing wrong with taking time to be thoughtful in your approach while creating. I find that those still moments are when I get incredible ideas that I had never even thought of, that perfectly solved my problem.
There are also times when no matter how hard you are trying you just can’t figure something out while creating. What seems like it should be so simple turns into a colossal mess! I call these my “just walk away” moments. I say it to myself out loud and take a break. We are not machines so some days will be better than others for creating. Especially with miniatures where we need very high focus. Accept it without being hard on yourself and you will have more fun!
