FROOME BACK IN YELLOW
Chris Froome emerged from the Tour’s opening week unscathed and took a slender lead in the yellow jersey into the race’s first rest day after a weekend that brought carnage and chaos to the peloton. With the sprinters having already lost two of their major players on stage four after Mark Cavendish and Peter Sagan collided, the Jura Mountains then brought despair to the overall contenders with Richie Porte, Rafał Majka and Froome’s team-mate Geraint Thomas the biggest names to leave the race. Porte, seen by many as Froome’s main rival for the maillot jaune in Paris and seemingly in the form of his career, was among five riders who abandoned on stage nine to Chambéry.
