Illustrated alphabets are a friendly staple of all our childhoods, one of our earliest intimations that learning will be unintimidating and joyful, as it should be, all our lives long. For some of us, though, getting into walking is the first time in a long time it really feels that way. The way the world
unfurls itself to you on a walk, unemphatically presenting opportunities to wonder, to investigate further, or file sensations in memory, butterflies in
flight, streams a-chuckle, bosky woodland floors, for consultation or comparison later; the way it gradually stitches together the places we know with the places we didn’t; the sense of proportion and our place in the scheme of things it gives: the world at walking pace is a kind and inspiring teacher, and what a lot of material it has to draw on! Our A-to-Z runs the gamut of the alphabet, treading a path we hope you’ll find as delightfully
varied and inspiring as we do.
