Our tour begins with “Cartoon Cars,” a feature that celebrates vehicles designed for the animation storyboard that were driven into the real world. Remember how mod Speed Racer’s Mach 5 appeared in the 1960s? How groovy the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine seemed? Wait till you see them now!

Neon signs become midnight cartoons that dip and dance at the flip of a switch. “Bright Nights in Toontown” showcases those that flash the darkness away in the most amusing fashion—the diving beauties, the tail-wagging dogs, the pancake chefs flipping flapjacks till dawn.

From there, we head to “Nowhere in Particular” as we revisit the Disneyland miracle that is Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. We stand on a corner of Sunset Boulevard with Bullwinkle J. Moose and spend a night with Tinker Bell at the Pink Motel. We eat french toast with Betty Boop and search out the Simpsons’ Springfield in western Oregon. So get out there and spend time with the singing flowers and trees. You’ll feel animated—as long as you remember to steer clear of that crazy bird that goes meep! meep!
