American Miniaturist  |  Issue 221
Recently I caught myself channeling my energy into intangible things. It’s always good to have dreams, but there are also many opportunities right in front of us that we may miss them if we’re looking too far out. So I refocused on things I could achieve in the near future. One of them was to start strength training. I am 52 and as I get older it will be easier to twist something or pick something up in a wrong way and hurt myself. I found an amazing gym and now have a trainer! Yes, I am feeling the burn and it’s such hard work, but I feel so good at the same time.
Exercise is a great way to keep anxieties at bay. Art is also wonderful for focus and stress relief. The other thing I have been working on is pushing my doll art to another level by trying different techniques and purchasing new mediums and materials. It is so important not to get in a rut with your art. I know it can feel uncomfortable to push your creativity and skill but it is so worth it.
Some of us create to unwind so any sort of stress can be uncomfortable while you’re in your zone. But the reward from seeing your work progress feels even better than staying in that safe place. So if there is a day when you feel a little more brave, jump on that opportunity and try something new. Don’t expect it to be perfect, just look at it like you are making a prototype and note the things that work and those that needs adjustments. Then share it with American Miniaturist!
