Watercolourists will love Geoff Hunt's article on sketching on a recent Mediterranean cruise, Phil Hobb's demonstration showing how to simplify a complex landscape, Jake Winkle's advice on the best techniques to use for a variety of subjects, whilst for those wanting to loosen up and try something different, Hazel Lale shows how to create a lively abstract composition using bright colours and shapes. Watercolour is also the focus for Paul Talbot-Greaves in the first of his new six-part series on the importance of contrast in your paintings, while Julie Collins advises on the best colours to choose to create realistic shadows. Plus, we have inspirational articles on how to capture the character of cats and the texture of fur in mixed media; how to paint like Georgia O'Keeffe in acrylics; how to simplify the figure and master tone; where, why and when to use glazing in your oil paintings; practical solutions for paintings that just don't work, and a detailed look at how to tackle eyes, noses and lips and get the proportions right from Hazel Soan - more than enough for another creative month of painting!
