hi-fi+ is Europe’s premier English-language high-end audio magazine. Whether it’s the latest in digital audio technology or the best turntable you’ve ever heard, hi-fi+ magazine is the ultimate audiophile authority.

Our goal is clear; to seek out the finest audio components money can buy. Music is the soundtrack to all our lives and we think that the better that soundtrack, sounds the more enriched our lives can be. A good audio system can open up new avenues of music that might surprise you. We don’t differentiate; it could be a classic valve amplifier or a state-of-the-art music server – if it sounds good, we want to know and we want to tell you about it. The difference between good sound and great sound lies in the details… and we are obsessive about detail.

We aren’t constrained by measurement or bogged down in stuffy old paradigms. We are relevant and a little bit irreverent. Hi-Fi+ features some of the best writers in the business, all passionate about making music sound as good as it possibly can. We seek out the finest audio components – and the latest and greatest music – and aren’t afraid of finding the best, whatever the cost.

hi-fi+ Global Network

hi-fi+ Issue 261 Sometimes, it’s all too easy to lose track of what high-end audio is all about. There’s a natural tendency to see expensive audio equipment and to assume it’s all about bragging rights. We tend to make the same assumptions about those who have expensive things in general, be they high-end cars, cameras, clothes, or even kitchen knives. ‘They’ (the ones who can afford such things) aren’t ‘serious’ about the hobby and just throw money around. At its most extreme, this too is all about the swagger. The boast goes something like this: “Those who spend less than me are skinflints, and those who spend more are spendthrifts!” Mister – and it’s almost always a guy – Wonderful might have spent £17 on a Casio watch in 1987, but anyone who buys something that isn’t a 1987 Casio digital watch is clearly wrong and delusional. The extreme is easy to spot, and even easier to ridicule, but this kind of thought process is so pervasive, it borders on a form of cognitive distortion. It’s not fallacious reasoning, because ultimately it’s a rejection of logic and truth-seeking; you don’t need a reason to assume those who spend more on audio than you are simply showing off, or those that spend less don’t take their passion seriously enough. It’s an argument made to win an argument, not to discover any form of reality. Some believe this inverted snobbery is a form of jealousy, but I’m not convinced. I’ve worked in the photo industry, and the same snobbery exists among those who own expensive Leicas and Hasselblads, pouring scorn on others with the same gear because they feel they don’t ‘get it’ the way they do. I’ve met music lovers and audio enthusiasts who can afford to indulge in their passions in ways most can’t. Sometimes, it’s balancing priorities; if you can afford to spend Maserati money and decide to buy Magico instead, there’s nothing wrong with that. And, someone passionate enough to buy a Maserati is just as passionate enough to buy a Magico...

Great mag Beoordeeld op 24 januari 2026

hi-fi+ Global Network

Hi Fi + has a much more friendly user interface than The Absolute Sound, which is a pain to read online. Beoordeeld op 01 april 2025

Really interesting

Very good magazine for all those fans of hi-fi information and news Beoordeeld op 09 april 2022

Hi-Fi+

Well, over the (many) years as an Audiophile, I have read (many) Audiophile magazines...My first impressions of Hi-Fi+ came from reading a printed issue (unfortunately, landed to someone who should have sent it back to me but didn't), but that issue whetted my appetite, so I paid for the digital edition. Great reviews, of important products, well-written....very satisfied. Will re-activate my subscription when it expires (in two month's time). Thanks a lot! Beoordeeld op 17 januari 2021
