As a girl, growing up in the Ecuadorian Amazon, Nemonte Nenquimo grew up with a sense that outsiders – or cowori – were a threat. Her childhood was a tug-of-war between the traditional lifestyle and values of her Waorani people and the encroachment of the Western world.
