THE TIMELESS ICON
The words ‘iconic’ and ‘immortal’ are sometimes overused in aviation circles, but both most certainly apply to the cover star of the March 2026 edition of FlyPast. The Supermarine Spitfire, represented here by OFMC’s famous Mk.IX MH434, is surely the most famous fighter aircraft ever built. We devote a special section to the legend, reflecting on how R J Mitchell came to design it, looking at the Spitfire in some of its more unusual guises (floatplane?), and getting the latest on a Biggin Hill restoration

FLYING WITH B-25 ‘WILD CARGO’
Uwe Glaser recounts the extraordinary story behind Jerry Yagen’s North American B-25 Mitchell ‘Wild Cargo’ – including how it got its name!

FLYING COLOURS
Chris French and Phil Hadley pay tribute to inspirational aviation artist Michael Turner who sadly died recently

NIGHT INTRUDER
Gilles Collaveri and the French Aérocherche group investigate the disappearance of an RAF Boston during a nocturnal ‘op’ over France

HUNTING U-BOATS
The airborne searchlight enabled Vickers Wellington crews to seek and destroy enemy submarines, as Andrew Thomas explains

ARGOSY AT WAR
Argosy XP444 served during the Indonesian Confrontation, and for writer Tony Fairbairn the aircraft even had a family connection

FlyPast

Very good Beoordeeld op 05 februari 2026

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
