MAKE SUMMER LAST
Swallows are still flying high but starting to line up on the telegraph wires a sign autumn is on its way. They remind me to enjoy every moment I can in the garden. I love walking across the lawn to smell Lonicera periclymenum ‘Serotina’, a honeysuckle that’s still blooming, and I’ve been filling the house with roses such as ‘Margaret Merril’, a strongly scented floribunda rose. I’m also direct sowing annuals where I’d like them to grow next year. I’ve sown poppies Eschscholzia mexicana ‘Sun Shades’, a bright orange variety alongside Papaver paeoniflorum ‘Black Peony’, as its deep purple colour makes an eye-catching clash. I hope you enjoy this issue it’s packed full of ideas to inspire you to make the most of summer’s last days.
