The new issue of AW (published on February 6) features exclusive interviews with two of Europe’s in-form distance runners.

Britain’s Eilish McColgan and Andreas Almgren of Sweden both began their competitive years by breaking the European 10km record in Valencia in January. The Scot discusses the ambitions she wants to fulfil once her running career is over, but she isn’t done yet and is focused on a return to the London Marathon in April, while also relishing the feeling of being back to full strength following knee surgery.

Almgren is also very much on the up and is planning to build on his 10,000m bronze medal at last year’s world championships. He talks in depth about his training regime, working with Jakob Ingebrigtsen and targeting a golden moment on the track in Birmingham this summer.

Emile Cairess is another who is looking to make his mark in 2026, and the Yorkshireman is full of confidence ahead of another appearance at the London Marathon, where he wants to take down Mo Farah’s British record of 2:05:11.

Away from the roads, the first major event of the year, the World Cross Country Championships, took place in Florida in January to a mixed reception. Though it drew the crowds, it didn’t attract many of the biggest names and Cathal Denney outlines his concerns for the future of the showpiece, insisting it’s too good to be allowed to wither on the vine.

The World Indoor Championships are on the horizon too and there are interviews with Britain’s two world indoor champions, Jeremiah Azu and Amber Anning. World steeplechase champion Geordie Beamish is also targeting indoor success this winter and he discusses his unique approach to the sport.

Columnist Katharine Merry tackles Reece Prescod’s controversial decision to join the Enhanced Games, Mark Woods looks at the damage that TNT’s Commonwealth Games broadcast deal might do, while ultra marathon athlete Sophie Power looks at the future of women’s sport.
