In this issue we are deliberately cutting short our usual ‘news’ section in
favour of a special feature from Interzoo. Interzoo is the largest trade show for the pet trade in Europe, and for manufacturers and importers alike, Interzoo is the event to be at. For the aquatic press it’s a ‘must go to’ destination. Many new products are launched at Interzoo and what’s on show at Interzoo are the products and concepts that will drive innovation in the industry for the next few years.

Interzoo 2014 was widely agreed, by everyone I spoke to at least, to be a success, trade was busy and brisk and many of the exhibitors were struggling with lost voices when I met up with them. The hobby and industry it would appear is buoyant.

For me this year’s trends appear to be the continuation of an increasing
move towards systemisation and controllability. More and more system
tanks are on off er with manufacturers emphasising compatibility of
components and of course some excellent design. Increasing numbers
of pumps, skimmers and lighting units are now available with controllers and Wi-Fi options. For the tech-minded this is an interesting time. I just hope we don’t forget to focus on the basics!
