Harlequin SE5a/ Night Fighter
As a night fighter in the Home defence units the SE5a was a less than ideal choice. Its water cooled engine required time to warm up, which put it at an immediate disadvantage in a scramble situation. Further to this the design of the nose meant that the SE5a was difficult to land at night. Despite this a number of Home Defence squadrons were equipped with the type towards the end of December 1917. Dave Hooper build’s Wingnut Wings’ kit in the experimental Harlequin scheme seen on some of these aircraft, with a little help from Pheon and Aviattic
