This month we take a look at the 42nd Ryder Cup, where the American team – billed as the strongest ever to travel overseas – were clear favourites. But against the odds Europe came out on top, showing once again that teamwork and belief counts for more than world ranking positions and reputations. While a European win wasn’t a totally outside bet, a winning margin of seven points was. Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood were the star men, but every
European contributed at least a point – a stark contrast with the US team.
World No.1 Dustin Johnson was very subdued, Phil Mickelson looked embarrassingly out of touch and Tiger just didn’t have the spark that had carried him through the FedExCup play-off s. Was he out of gas?
