Though we've experienced a lengthy cold snap in recent weeks, with no end of morning rides sabotaged by snow and ice, if you picture a typical UK winter, scenes of rain and mud are more likely to be conjured. That's why the March 2021 edition of Cycling Plus shines a light on four brilliant mudguard-equipped bikes, which help to keep both you and your riding partner clean of mud (and at time of writing, you can still have a solitary riding partner!) Our four bikes come from Kinesis, Ribble, Tifosi and Condor.
In our second bike group test, it's Brompton vs Brompton, as two folding ebikes - one of their own and one with an ebike conversion kit from Cytronex - went head-to-head.
At the front of the mag, we've first rides of the Aurum Magma Zipp, Trek Domane+ LT 7 ebike and BMC Teammachine ALR Disc Two.
In our gear group test, we review ten of the best 28mm road tyres and in Upgrade we test the Lezyne Connect Smart 1000XL light set, Fabric Line-S Pro Flat saddle and a Castelli cold- weather outfit.
In The Hub, features editor John reacquaints himself with the joys of the winter ride, we profile three awesome routes in magnificent Worcester and consider how Aberfoyle wants to be known as the gravel capital of Scotland.
In Features, we demonstrate how you can transform your lunch hour from lazy to punchy; go inside community bike co-op, Bristol Bike Project; hear from the riders who've waged war on winter and won; and discover new ways to motivate your riding.
