Dolls House World Magazine Issue 350 Zurück Ausgabe

As we celebrate 350 issues of Dolls House World people often ask me where the idea for the magazine came from. And I have to say ‘my wife’.
It was back in 1989 when she returned from her first doll’s house fair, totally hooked on miniatures. She’d bought a bagful of tiny treasures, but the biggest surprise was sticking out of her handbag. It was a magazine. Sue wasn’t a magazine buyer, so this was a shock.
“How much did you pay for it?” I asked her, rather scornful of the black and white publication, which resembled more of a pamphlet, than a magazine. “No idea,” she said. “I just wanted it.” That was the lightbulb moment. If you produced a wonderful magazine about miniatures, and did it with love, people would buy it.
Many months later we lugged heavy boxes of our first edition out of the car and up the stairs, arriving with some trepidation at our first show - Miniatura at Edgbaston cricket ground. We needn’t have worried. Miniaturists are lovely people and they welcomed our first issue with encouraging comments.
Thirty years on we’re still getting lovely feedback, and it warms our hearts. You’ve stuck with us through thick (our super quality paper) and thin (our struggles to get magazines printed during Covid).
Sadly, we don’t get to exhibit at many shows these days to say thank you in person. We used to travel everywhere from Pudsey to King’s Lynn. But magazines are heavy and my back’s not what it was.
But 350 issues on we’re still as passionate about miniatures as we ever were. And we never forget you are too.
