They said it couldn’t be done. Minds immeasurably superior to ours told us our empire would crumble if we dared to venture along this path. Nothing good will come from this, they warned us. Turn back before it’s too late. And yet here we are with a Matra Rancho on the cover of our mag. We’d call it a post-Christmas bonus, only our subscribers were receiving their copies before Noel Tiddybeard started delivering presents. Issue seven is the gift that keeps on giving, long into the new year.

You can blame our deputy editor if the magazine disappears without a trace following the decision to stick a Rancho on the front cover; he has been lobbying for its inclusion since the days when Classic.Retro.Modern. was little more than a sparkle in our publisher’s eye. Read Gavin’s words on the Rancho, because they might be the last words he writes for us.

Gavin also drives an Innocenti Regent, as well as spouting more waffle on cars like the Chrysler Neon and Audi A3. Oh, and he also introduces us to his son’s Range Rover P38.

More convincing words come from Richard Dredge as he interviews the people behind the Young Retro Motor Club and profiles the new generation of classic car fans. Fancy buying a BMW Mini in 2022? The Ultimate Guide tells you everything you need to know about this modern classic.

Richard Heseltine profiles Lotus founder Colin Chapman, a man he describes as “a free-thinking innovator”. Mr H also lists six of the best Special Spridgets and waxes lyrical about the Bertone Jaguar Ascot.

Data from Hagerty reveals the classic cars immune from market hype, and we introduce Sam Glover as our new correspondent. Darren Walker’s letter from America features the Montego (no, not that one), while the reader restoration is a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.

Other cars include the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, Hillman Imp, MGB, Mini Mayfair and Rover 220 GSi, while our regulars include Sheds Heaven, Your Classics, Kicking Tyres and Ignition.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is the start of something special. A new monthly magazine focusing on established, emerging and modern classics. The cars of the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and ’00s might be familiar, but the stories we tell will be anything but. Classic.Retro.Modern. isn’t here to fit in.

Every month, our readers can expect superb writing, great photography, quality print, excellent design, and an ability to think differently. The cars will be accessible, attainable, and relevant. Our mix will be eclectic. Discover the joys of owning a Reliant Regal before turning over to read about why you should be considering a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 5. The Jaguar E-Type rubbing shoulders with the Vauxhall Calibra. The Mini 1275 GT sharing space with the Fiat Panda Mk1.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is fresh enough to appeal to young drivers taking their first tentative steps in the world of classic cars. Established to appeal to knowledgeable enthusiasts who have seen (and read) it all. The magazine will be as at home on a coffee table as it is at a local ‘cars and coffee’ event.

On-sale monthly, it’s packed with classic cars. Regulars such as buying guides, reader restorations and news will be accompanied by drive stories and features designed to excite, inform, and enthuse. Classic.Retro.Modern. will be printed on high-quality paper and filled with great photography and superb design.

The team has a long and successful track record, consisting of Ian Robertson as Publisher, Richard Dredge in as Editor and Gavin Braithwaite-Smith taking the role of Deputy Editor, alongside other well-respected contributors. And that’s all backed up by a group of incredibly talented classic car nuts that look after the design, website and behind the scenes, it’s very much a case that we’ve assembled our dream team.

It's a work of art

Look forward to every issue. It's beautiful, finely crafted and I love the old adverts in between. I can't wait until every issue arrives. Überprüft 29 April 2022
