Nature – unforgiving, mesmerising and beautiful in equal measure. Cut to below the surface, and from August onwards one of the world’s greatest fish migrations reaches a crescendo. First the sea fills with saury, a sandeel-sized mini-species. These are followed by the herring shoals, then, right at the top of the food chain, come dolphins, minke whales and seals. They know it’s a time to feast, as do the gannets and kittiwakes
poised above and waiting for harassed fish to come within diving range. All these predators are supreme hunters in their own right, but some of the biggest fish in the Atlantic are soon to put in an appearance and plunder the prey fish still further.
