The Creative Thread

Autumn 2026 The Autumn issue of The Creative Thread is a special one: September 2026 marks an extraordinary milestone for the Embroiderers’ Guild as we celebrate our 120th birthday. That’s over a century of stitch, creativity and education. Such a long and rich heritage is an opportunity to reflect on our story, and it’s somehow fitting that the Bayeux Tapestry, itself an important piece of stitched history with influence, returns to these shores. We explore its craftsmanship and impact on other pieces. But anniversaries aren’t just about looking back, but for asking what happens next. For the Guild, that means investing in the future of embroidery – and, importantly, the people who shape it. In this issue we introduce our eight new Guild Graduates who we will be supporting throughout the coming year as they develop their practice and careers. You’ll have the opportunity to see their work at the Knit + Stitch shows, where they’ll be exhibiting as part of the exciting programme we offer. Also in this issue you’ll find two exclusive projects to try, our expert-led stitch tutorial, birthday offers and more. Enjoy the issue!

The Pocketmags app runs on all iPad and iPhone devices running iOS 15.6 or above, Android 8.0 or above, and Amazon Fire Tablets from 2018 onwards, though owners of earlier Fire models can check the Amazon Appstore directly on their device to confirm compatibility.

For iOS users, we recommend using a device capable of running the latest version of iOS for optimal performance and stability, as older hardware with lower processing power and RAM may experience slower page rendering or occasional stability issues due to device memory limitations. Alternatively, our web-reader works with any modern, HTML5-compatible browser, though we recommend Chrome or Firefox for the best experience on PC and Mac.
